This morning, I was thinking about God’s conversation with Jeremiah in the Bible.

Jeremiah 1:11-12 says, Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a branch or shoot of an almond tree [the emblem of alertness and activity, blossoming in late winter]. Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.

Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it. (Jer 1:12, Amp)

God said to Jeremiah, I am watching over my word to perform it. It wasn’t the first time I had read this passage of scripture nor was it the first time I had meditated on these words. However, as I heard it today, it had a different meaning or insight.

Upon reading, I heard the Lord ask this question. “What word is in your heart that I can watch over and perform? Is there anything in your heart for God to watch over and perform?”

This can be a convicting question.

If God is watching and looking for his word to perform it, first and foremost, the word must be sown in our heart. If the word is not sown in our hearts, there is nothing for him to perform.

Does that make sense?

Are you weekly sowing the word of God in your heart. Are you daily meditating on the word of God and planting it inside of you, renewing your mind? If you are, there are things/ words in your heart that God can watch over and perform.

Did you know an almond branch, like the one Jeremiah saw, represents a new beginning? It was the first thing to begin to grow in the winter season. Ushering in a new season.

It was the spoken word of God that was ushering in the new beginning – the new season that Jeremiah was stepping into.

In the same manner, the entire world was created in the book of Genesis. The world was framed by the word of God. In Jeremiah’s time, the season was changing because of the word of God.

It is the same for you and me. The word of God, planted in our heart, will eventually come to maturity and birth forth a new season in our life. But, first, it must be sown.

Let’s look at a few scriptures.

Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. (Is 32:20)

Be not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. (Gal 6:7)

He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. (Ps 126:6)

The sower sows the word. (Mk 4:14)

We may not feel full of faith when we are sowing seed of the word of God into our hearts. Yet God promises us that even when we sow in tears, we will reap in joy! Whatever we sow, that we will reap. If we desire to see God manifest his word and his promises in our life then we must be diligent to sow that word into our heart on a continual basis.

Today, my question to you is, “Is there anything in your heart for God to watch over and perform?”

I pray there is, and if there is, know this. He is active and alert, watching over that word, ready to perform it. To establish a new beginning in your life. One that will cause you to dance with joy. I just love that about God, don’t you?!
