There’s something incredibly uplifting and transformative about those moments when God chooses to convey profound, life-altering messages, often in the midst of what seems to be a routine conversation. It’s as if the mundane fabric of everyday dialogue is suddenly woven with threads of divine inspiration, reminding us of deeper truths and guiding us towards a more meaningful path.

I was having a phone conversation with a friend who was discussing her and her husband’s spiritual journey. She told me that she had said to him, “We have made some mistakes along the way, but we have done some things right, too.”

For some reason, over the next few moments, she repeated the statement several times. Each time she did, it resonated more deeply within me. God was speaking to me, and not just to me, but to you as well.

I believe that each one of us carries the weight of past missteps and errors in judgment. We’ve woven a tapestry of choices—some brilliant, others regrettable. As we glance back through the corridors of time, it’s easy to feel a twinge of remorse, imagining how different some moments could have been had we chosen differently. Engaging in this introspection can be profoundly enlightening, a treasure trove of lessons waiting to be unearthed.

Yet, amidst this reflection, let us not forget the things we did right that illuminate our journey. You have made choices that led to triumph, unveiling your strength and resilience. While we acknowledge our falls, it’s equally important to celebrate the moments when our decisions were filled with wisdom.

Remember: You are still present, still yearning to encounter God and His plan for you. You are still devoted to walking in alignment with His word. You have not strayed from His will, even amidst the imperfect choices we sometimes make. He remains flawless—unyielding in His love and wisdom—steadily guiding your steps toward His destiny for you. Trust in His steadfast presence, for He will illuminate your path until you reach the fullness of what awaits you.

I love Philippians 3:13-14, which says; But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

When the word of God urges us to let go of our past, casting aside the burdens of our mistakes, why do we cling to these memories so tightly? It’s not whispers of God that echo our failures; rather, it’s the weight we carry ourselves. God, in His infinite grace, has chosen to forget our transgressions, distancing them as far as the horizon stretches from the earth. If He can erase those shadows from His mind, shouldn’t we also release the chains of guilt that bind us?

I strive to cultivate kindness and compassion for everyone around me, extending mercy to those in need. Yet, when I look at myself, I become my harshest critic. The echoes of my past mistakes sometimes resonate loudly in my mind—each misstep a reminder of opportunities lost and paths untaken. I replay the moments when I faltered; I see the choices I could have made differently, choices that might have steered my life down a more fruitful course. I recognize the times when I should have sought wisdom with greater fervor, prayed with more sincerity, and immersed myself deeper in understanding. Those instances stand out starkly, vivid and clear, illuminating my journey with regret. However, I must also remember this profound truth. I  have done some things right too. For I am still here. Still seeking an intimate relationship with God. Still trusting Him and following Him to the best of my ability.

He is still the love of my life. He is still the one I go to for every little thing. I continue to read His Word and follow it. I continue to seek His wisdom. My relationship with Him is closer this day, much closer, than it was ten years ago. Apparently, I have done some things right too.

So, why is it that we overlook this profound truth?

Hearing my friend make that statement brought freedom and peace to my mind. I felt free and at peace being reminded that I have done some things right as well. There is fruit in my life; I can see evidence of the good things I have done and accomplished. I am grateful to God for that.

If you’re feeling like you’ve messed up today, remember that you’ve also done things right. Take a moment to celebrate those achievements. Let go of your past mistakes and focus on the positive things you’ve accomplished. Recognize the fruits of your labor. Allow God to grant you freedom and peace of mind about where you are today.

I will leave you with Philippians 4:8; Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.
