This morning I came across a post I had shared with friends on facebook back in 2015. Remember it was several years ago, when my grandchildren were small. I had forgotten about this day and I am so thankful I was reminded. I want to share it with you today…
What a wonderful day! I spent a couple of hours alone with my four-year-old granddaughter, Brailee. We played with fabric, buttons, and games, and made some homemade chocolate chip cookies for Bryson. After that, we sat on the back porch in my swing and enjoyed some quiet time together. Brailee worked on puzzles on my iPad while I sat quietly beside her, praying for her, just as I used to do with Bryson when he was too small to sit still and allow me to pray over him.
As I sat there, I silently prayed over my granddaughter. When I prayed for Bryson at that age, I always asked that he would have a quiet and gentle spirit, that he would be moved with compassion for others, and that he would be sensitive to the spirit of God. I can see those qualities now in this almost nine-year-old.
For Brailee, I felt led to pray differently – again, it was silent, in my heart prayers, she didn’t even know what I was doing. I prayed for her to have a strong anointing and a boldness for the things of God. I prayed for her to see things in the spirit, even at a young age, I prayed for her to have spiritual insight into what was going on in the spirit and declare it even at four years old. When I stopped praying, I patted her on the leg and sat there watching butterflies and feeling the cool breeze.
Brailee was playing a puzzle when she began to talk to me. She said, “Jesus is coming.”
“What?” I questioned.
“Jesus is coming,” she repeated.
“He is?” I asked.
“Um hmmm” she said in her sweet little voice.
“Okay,” I replied.
Prayer is powerful and God works through children – pray SPIRIT-LED prayers over your children and then allow them to blossom into all God has created them to be. I prayed for Brailee to have spiritual insight and declare it at a young age – that is precisely what she did mere moments later!
James 5:16 says; The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
The Passion Translation says it like this; Tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer!
When we pray for our children or grandchildren, it is most likely a passionate prayer – one that makes great power available.
That day, even though Brailee had no idea I was praying for her, I saw the results of that prayer immediately.
It’s easy to see the things our kids do wrong. That doesn’t take much effort. What takes great effort is to pray and declare God’s word over them in the midst of it. That’s what God tells us to do…to call those things that be not as though they already were.
As we do, great power is available to us and to our children. Prayer works. SPIRIT-LED prayer hits the mark every single time.
Today, I encourage you to pray a spirit led prayer over your children and grandchildren. Ask God what He sees in them and then pray for that. Draw His gifts and character out of them. You can do that simply by praying for your children, even if they are now adults. Prayer works – release the power that God put inside of you…pray Spirit Led Prayers.
