And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. (Deut 8:18)
Over the weekend, I was meditating on this scripture and asked God for insight into its meaning. From my past studies, I know that the word “power” in this scripture can also be translated as “ability.” We serve a God who empowers us and provides us with the ability to prosper. The scripture states that He does this to establish His covenant with us.
God will fulfill His promise to everyone who believes and earnestly seeks it. But how do we proceed, and what actions should we take?
I am fully convinced that every answer we need can be found in His holy, unchanging word. Whatever we seek, if we search diligently, we will discover it in the word of God.
Joshua 1:8 says, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
The first thing we should do is spend time in the Word of God. We need to meditate on His teachings and His promises. We are assured that by doing this, our paths will be prosperous, and we will experience good success. That alone is a compelling reason, don’t you think?
Every day that I serve God, I become more convinced that He desires for us to prosper even more than we want to prosper ourselves. He has already laid out the path; all that remains is for us to follow it.
As we immerse ourselves in His Word, we learn about His ways and how to become more prosperous. When we become doers of His Word, we start to implement His methods in our lives. As a result, we begin to witness the fulfillment of His promises.
His path is revealed in His Word. One way He has provided for us to achieve greater prosperity is found in Luke 6:38, a well-known scripture to everyone.
Luke 6:38 says, Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.
You’ve likely heard it said before, but it’s worth repeating: you cannot out-give God. Luke 6:38 provides a powerful reminder of how to increase what we have. When we give, it will be given back to us in good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. This clearly shows that what we receive is far greater than what we give.
We see this same principal in Matthew, in the parable of the sower.
Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! (Matt 13:3-10)
We are all familiar with the parable of the sower. The key in this verse is, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Not everyone wants to hear this message.
Everyone desires prosperity, but not everyone is willing to pursue it through God’s way of doing things. My friend, there is no other path—only His way.
To genuinely experience true prosperity, you must follow God’s principles. This means honoring Him by giving what belongs to Him and not holding back. Additionally, you should give according to His instructions.
I may not be where I want to be in terms of prosperity, but I am definitely not where I used to be—far from it. The reason for my progress is that I chose to give even when I had very little, and I have always tithed faithfully. I have done this for over forty years, and today, I am truly blessed. I remained faithful in small things, and I know I will be faithful in the greater things.
If you are not experiencing the fullness of God’s prosperity today, take a moment to examine your heart. Meditate on what the Word of God says about prosperity and ask Him to reveal His path for you to thrive. God is faithful, and He will lead and guide you right into a wealthy place. It is His promise to you and to I.
Tithing is key. Years ago, my husband wanted me to stop tithing. I did and we started to have trouble financially. I convinced him to let me start tithing again and once again, we had enough money. Now I am still tithing and giving extra to feed the hungry and build water wells. I have an abundance of everything and all my needs are met. Praise God.
