God often speaks to me through things of nature. There are certain things in nature that if I need to hear from God, he will show me these things. One of those things is rainbows. I love them. They always remind me of the faithfulness of God and the truth that he will never break his covenant with me.
Another thing God often speaks to me through is the geese that fly south in the winter. I can’t count the times he has shown me a set or more of these birds flying in a V-shape when I needed to hear from him. To me this always says, victory. Many times, I have seen this awesome sight even when it wasn’t time for them to fly south. Often, I have seen them in the midst of the summer months and in the middle of winter. I love how God speaks to me personally.
Just yesterday I saw a set of geese flying, I waited for them to form the V, but they were out of my sight before the did. This happened three different times that day. Mind you, we are in the beginning of September, it is not time for them to fly south yet. However, three times I saw them and three times the didn’t form the V until I could no longer see them. This troubled me.
I spent most of my day asking God was he was saying to me. Was I missing something? Had I allowed distractions to stop me from seeing something God had planned for me. Turns out, it wasn’t about me, at least not only me.
This morning as I sat down to write my article for the day, the Lord finally spoke to me and said, “Tell the people, don’t miss their moment, don’t let victory pass you by.”
He took me to scriptures that I have always found interesting. Let me share them with you today.
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. (Mt 26:36-46)
Have you ever thought about this portion of scriptures?
Jesus asked those closest to him to watch and pray with him. When he came out of prayer the first time, he found them asleep. So, the second time, he asked them to watch and pray, even asking if they could not keep their eyes on what he asked for one hour. He came back the third time and they were asleep again. This time, he didn’t even wake them. He simply went back to pray. The last time he came back and found them asleep, he said, “Sleep on…”
What was he saying? He was saying, “It’s too late now, the time has passed, you may as well keep sleeping now.”
To me, this is a very sobering passage. Jesus asked them to watch a pray for they were in a pivotal moment in time. They slept on. The third time, he didn’t ask them to pray, he didn’t even wake them. The fourth time, he said they may as well keep sleeping, it was too late, the time had passed. Let this not be us.
What would have happened had they heeded Jesus request? We will never know, because they didn’t.
Today, I ask you to search your heart. Is there anything God has asked you to do? Perhaps spend more time in the word of God. Or fast. Or turn off the television and pray. Maybe, sow an offering. Has he asked you twice? There may not be a third time, as we see in this scripture.
The word, watch, means rise up and be alert. Are you sleeping when he is asking you to rise up and press forward? I know this isn’t a pleasant writing, but I do believe God is speaking to us – to many of us. He is saying, “Don’t miss the moment, it may pass you by and it may not come around again for a long time.” Don’t be like the disciples in this passage of scripture. Listen when he speaks and be quick to obey. Don’t miss your moment.
I want to share one more scripture with you.
Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’ ” So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” (2 Kings 7:1-2)
We must believe what God speaks to us, whether it is to our heart directly, or through a prophetic voice – if we fail to believe, it will still happen if God has said it would, but we may not eat of it. I do not want that to be me, do you?
