In Matthew 17:20, Jesus says; For assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

He says that we can speak to the mountain, and it will move. The mountain symbolizes the obstacles, hindrances, or battles we face. That being said, have you ever spoken to a mountain and found that it didn’t move? I know I have.

Recently, while studying, I came across a scripture that provided me with valuable insight. It guided me on what to do when I speak to a mountain, and it doesn’t seem to move. The scripture is found in Isaiah 41:15-16.

Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; You shall thresh the mountains and beat them small, and make the hills like chaff. You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; You shall rejoice in the Lord, and glory in the Holy One of Israel.

This scripture states that God will transform us into a new threshing sledge equipped with sharp teeth. When I researched the term “sharp teeth,” I found that it refers to a double-edged sword. Aha! This reminds me of another scripture that also mentions a double-edged sword.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Heb 4:12)

As I continued to study this, I found that “threshing the mountains” is a metaphor for overcoming seemingly impossible challenges. Mountains, as stated earlier, represent obstacles or powerful forces standing in our way.

To crush them means to achieve complete and utter defeat. The root word here, “daqaq,” signifies the act of pulverizing or breaking something into pieces. The phrase “to reduce to chaff” suggests that something has become so insignificant that even a gentle breeze could easily blow it away. This reminds me of a study I conducted years ago about the anointing. That study stated that when God’s anointing is applied, it destroys the yoke, leaving no trace that it was ever there. I truly love that!

God has provided a way for us to achieve complete victory in every situation. If we speak to the mountain and it doesn’t seem to move, there is still hope. We can continue to confront that mountain until it is reduced to nothing—until it becomes so small that the wind blows it away, never to be seen again.

How do we achieve this? We use the two-edged sword, which is the Word of God. We declare and apply the Word of God to our situation repeatedly. With each declaration, we believe that the Word is breaking down the mountain that stands before us, chipping away at it until there is nothing left.

God promises us that we are like a threshing sledge, empowered through Jesus Christ to conquer every mountain that tries to come against us. This message is one of empowerment, assuring us that we can overcome every enemy and every challenge through Jesus and the Word of God.

Do you have a mountain in your life that feels overwhelming? If so, do not despair. Keep speaking to that mountain. Keep declaring the Word of God and continue praying. Don’t stop what you are doing. Today, I am asking God to give you a vision of how you are gradually chipping away at that mountain. May He show you how that mountain is becoming smaller and smaller until, one day, a gentle breeze from the Spirit blows it completely away. May God hasten His Word to fulfill it in your life today. That is my prayer for you..
