Today, a scripture I once studied came to mind. It is found in Psalm 138:8.

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.

Several years ago, I stumbled upon a powerful scripture that resonated deeply with me during a challenging time when I was faced with a difficult decision. There are moments in life when we find ourselves standing at a crossroads, uncertain of which path to take. It’s that feeling of being caught in a fog of doubt, wondering whether we should press on and walk by faith, or if it’s better to simply halt our plans entirely. I grappled with questions that weighed heavily on my heart: What is the right course of action? What decision will lead to the best outcome? In those moments of uncertainty, this scripture from the Book of Psalms served as a guiding light.

The Word of God assures us that He will complete the work He has begun in us. However, I found myself questioning whether this particular endeavor was initiated by God or if it was my own undertaking. If it was indeed my own effort, would God still support me through it? I discovered the answer in scripture, and I would like to explain.

There are two words spelled “perfect” in the Bible, each pronounced differently and having distinct meanings. The first, pronounced PER-fect, refers to flawlessness or sinlessness. The second, pronounced per-FECT, is a verb that means completion or termination. Therefore, when the verse states, “the Lord will per-FECT that which concerns you,” it is saying that He will complete it or bring it to an end. This means He will either fully bring something to pass or remove it from your life, depending on what aligns with His will for you. This brought me great comfort.

Every area of our life is a journey of development. Each day offers a new opportunity for learning. The Lord guides us step by step according to His timing and plan. Even if it feels like we’re not making progress, we truly are. Isn’t it wonderful to know that whatever happens in your life, God is working on those things that concern you? He is actively bringing about what is meant for you and removing what does not serve His purpose. The things that align with His will—those that are good and pure—He is bringing to completion. Conversely, He is removing anything that doesn’t align with His plan for you. This is such an incredible promise and a liberating thought. No matter if the situation is good or bad, they are in His hands. This understanding frees us to wholeheartedly trust God.

I can think of no better message to usher us into a new season. I know that God is working on perfecting the things that matter to you. He is either completing what is necessary or removing what no longer serves you. This is truly good news for us.

Each day, confess this scripture over your life and the lives of your loved ones. Declare, “God is perfecting all that concerns me; it is in His hands, and I trust in His faithfulness.” Regardless of what has happened or what is currently happening in your life, and regardless of how things may appear, God IS perfecting everything that concerns you—trust Him with it and continue walking in peace.
