I was thinking about people of faith the other day. I was thinking about how it was when I was first born again, it has been over 30 years. Back in those days, faith was taught everywhere. At least every place I was involved. I heard faith, faith, and more faith. I had so much teaching on faith that people jokingly said I had crazy faith. Today I remain a person of strong faith.
If I shared with you some of the things God did for me when I first started walking with Him, you probably wouldn’t believe it. That’s just where my faith was. It was an awesome place to walk. After walking with the Lord, hearing different teachings, and watching different moves of God I still have faith. A solid faith. However, some days I miss my crazy faith.
It seems to me that in the past several years there has been less teaching on faith and more teachings on the supernatural or prophetic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the supernatural acts of God as much as the next person. I love the prophetic. I believe in both. However, I am finding less and less people of strong faith. To develop strong faith, we must hear faith taught on a regular basis.
One of the first teachings I heard was faith being your profession. Hebrews 10:23 says; Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised.
Of course, this scripture is talking about what we say, our words. Still, I began to ponder on different professions. If someone is a policeman and they see a crime taking place, it doesn’t really matter if they are on duty or not. They will instinctively do whatever is necessary to stop the crime. It is their profession; it is on the inside of them. It is their first instinct.
The same with a doctor. If he finds himself enjoying dinner on a quiet night off work and the man a few tables down collapses, he doesn’t just sit there and continue eating. No, his first instinct is to help the man. He is a doctor; it is on the inside of him.
I could go on and on but the point I am trying to make is this. If you are a faith person, as most of us say we are, what is your first instinct when a challenge comes before you? What is on the inside of you?
What is your first thought when you get a bill you can’t pay? What is your first reaction when your child does something that shocks you? What is your first instinct when someone is rude to you in a store? What is your first feeling when you hear a bad report? What is your go to response? Is it faith or fear?
A person of faith would say, “we may not be able to see what God is doing, but we are confident that He is working on our behalf.” A faith person would expect God to meet the need for the bill. A faith person would declare what the Word of God says about their child and nothing more. A faith person would declare, “we believe the report of the Lord!” Those things would be a faith person’s first response.
The bible says, without faith it is impossible to please God. That truth remains today. If we are going to walk in a way that is pleasing to God, we must be people of faith. Our first, middle and final response must be one of faith and trust in an unfailing God.
Let’s look again at Hebrews 10:23; Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised.
Our profession should be one of a faith that doesn’t waver. The Bible says, Abraham wavered not at the promises of God but was FULLY PERSUADED that God was able to do all He said He would do.
I wonder today, can you say the same thing Abraham believed? Can you proclaim, “I have not wavered at what God promised me, I know He is well able to do all He said He would do and not only well able, but I am fully persuaded He will do it.” That, my friend, is a person of faith.
If you can say that, great! If not, don’t despair, it’s an easy fix.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. All you must do is get in the Word of God until you possess an unshakable faith. It is God’s plan that His people walk in a God-kind-of-faith to such a degree that when we speak to a mountain, we have no doubt it must move. That is what is available to every one of us.
I believe it is time to become a body of faith people, what about you? Extreme faith people! People who believe God when everything around them shouts, “it will never happen.” We keep believing, we keep declaring His Word and we keep standing firm in faith. Now that is a person who pleases God. I want to be one of those, how about you?
