So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”(Luke 17:6)

In this passage, God beautifully illustrates faith as a tiny mustard seed, symbolic of its potential and power. Just like any seed nestled in the soil, faith must first be sown before it can flourish. But how do we nurture this seed of faith?

This scripture reveals that we plant it through the spoken word. What we yearn for and believe God for will remain dormant until we vocalize it; that is the crucial first step in sowing the seeds of our faith.

Once we have spoken what we are standing in faith for, we must diligently water it with the Word of God, allowing it to permeate our hearts and minds. In this partnership, God and His word will cause our faith to grow and ultimately yield the results we seek, transforming our hopes into reality.

Did you know that mustard is a unique plant in the realm of gardening and agriculture? Unlike many other plants, mustard cannot be cross-pollinated to create hybrid varieties. No matter the methods or techniques employed to attempt to alter its characteristics, mustard will always retain its distinct identity. It remains true to its nature as mustard, producing the same brilliant yellow flowers and seeds used to create the tangy condiment we know today.

This idea resonates with the scripture we are examining, as it reflects the unwavering truth that is being conveyed. Just as mustard steadfastly maintains its characteristics, so must our faith.

If you have faith that will not change under any circumstance, you can plant it by speaking it.  As you plant it and continue to speak it, it will continue to grow, until it produces the harvest you are speaking.

I just love that, don’t you? Our faith must remain steadfast regardless of what comes our way.

Faith is not a fleeting notion that dances in and out of our lives; rather, it is a profound lifestyle that beckons us to embrace it fully. It’s not enough to utter a declaration once and expect everything to align itself in response. Faith must weave itself into the very fabric of our being, becoming a seamless part of who we are. You cannot proclaim your beliefs with fervor in the morning only to uproot them by doubting the very words you have spoken before nightfall.

The word of God is an unwavering blueprint of His will for our lives, the rest is up to us. His word must be sown deeply within us, nurtured like a seed in fertile soil, allowing it to take root and flourish. Only then can it become the manifestation of the promises we desire, transforming our hopes and dreams into a tangible reality.

Brother Norvel Hayes used to say to me, “If you can see it, you can have it.”

I embraced his words wholeheartedly, fully aware that it was anchored in the word of God. I realized that unless I could ‘see’ something in my heart, I could not have it – however, if I meditated and declared the word of God over a promise until I could see it – it was mine.

Each time I followed his insight; it produced remarkable results without fail.

I started by boldly proclaiming and affirming His words and promises over my life, like a gardener planting a precious seed. With every declaration, I nurtured that seed of faith, watering it with the unfailing word of God. As time passed, that seed took root and blossomed into a flourishing reality, yielding exactly what it was destined to produce, just as God had said it would.

The word of God is unwavering and steadfast, a beacon of truth that never falters. It fulfills its promises with unyielding certainty, time after time. It is up to us to embrace and implement its truth. We must anchor ourselves firmly in the word of God, undeterred by anything life that may swirl around us. When we commit to this, we will witness the abundant fruit of His word blossoming in our lives. A testament to the power of even the smallest seed of faith—a harvest that flourishes beyond our wildest expectations. May that flourishing harvest become yours this very year as you mediate and proclaim the word of the living God.
