I was listening to a message one day when I heard the man say this. He said, “Say this, “It is NOT my thought, it is only a voice.” That day it made perfect sense to me because I had some very negative things running through my mind. I initially thought they were MY thoughts, but this simple sentence reminded me that they were not my thoughts, they were only a voice.
John 10:27-29 says,
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
It is up to us to know the voice of our Father, the voice of Jesus and the voice of Holy Spirit. We learn to know His voice by cultivating a deep-rooted relationship with Him. Once we know His voice, it will be easier for us to recognize the voice of a stranger.
Have you ever noticed, if you listen to the wrong voice long enough, it will start to make sense. Eve did this in the book of Genesis.
As we know, the devil came to her to tempt her to do what God had forbidden. She listened to him. The Bible says give no place to the devil, but she gave place to him. She listened until what he was saying seemed to make sense to her, even though it was the opposite of what God had said.
If we listen to the wrong thing long enough it will start to make sense to us, too. We cannot give place to the devil. We can’t allow his words, his thoughts, to stay in our mind even for a second. We can’t meditate on what he says until it begins to make sense to us.
For instance, if you are believing for debt freedom, the enemy will try to convince you it will never happen. He will say things like, “This can never happen, think about how much money you make. The bills you have. There is no way to pay off your house, you can just settle in your heart that it will take 30 years.” That’s not the truth. The truth is nothing is impossible with God. Pray and get a plan from Him and then do what He says to do.
Maybe the enemy is saying your children will never come back to God. Perhaps he reminds you how far they have gone the other way – if you listen long enough, what he says will start to sound like truth. But the truth is God will save you and your household. The truth is if we stand in faith and refuse to give up, they will come back to God. He will draw them back.
Or, maybe he says, “Look at your body, your prayers are not working. It’s only getting worse, just stop standing in faith and admit you will have to live like this.” That is a lie! The truth is the prayers of a righteous man/ woman makes great power available, dynamic in its working. The truth is, by the stripes of Jesus you are healed. The truth is, God will and is restoring you to life and health. Even as you read this.
Do not entertain lies from the devil. How do you know if it is a lie? As a friend once told me, anything he says is a lie, he CANNOT tell the truth. If it goes against what God has said, it is a lie. End of story. God’s word is truth and will override facts every single time, if you refuse to give up. The enemy can’t tell the truth and God cannot lie.
Remember, the word of God says His people will not listen to the voice of a stranger. Give no place to the devil. Not one second. Not a single thought – and remember – it is NOT your thoughts; it is just a voice. The voice of the enemy. The voice of a stranger. Put it in its place, cast it down and back to where it came from. Use your authority and silence the voice of the enemy.
So true. The enemy has been a liar from the beginning. We are told not to lean on our own understanding, but we need to Know the word so we can filter our thoughts by the power of the Holy Spirit and speak to those thoughts, the word says ….. It is a daily battle, but then soldiers are told to be alert to the enemy’s schemes.
