Early one morning, someone shared a video with me of thousands worshipping amid the threat of attack in Jerusalem. It was an impactful video – it captured my heart in that moment. It also made me examine my heart and ask a few questions, questions that I believe are crucial for our growth. The most prominent question is, “What are we doing in the midst of battle? What is our posture during attacks or threats of attacks?”
What do you do when you find yourself in the heat of a battle? Do you stand firm in faith and continue to declare God’s Word?
Do you murmur and complain or say, “God, WHEN will the breakthrough come?”
Are you worshipping and praising God amid the battle, or are you waiting until you get to the other side?
Let’s look at what the Bible says about these questions.
First, in the midst of battles or a threat of attack, we must stand firm in our faith and continue to trust in God and His unfailing Word. We must not allow the enemy to move us.
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (1Cor 16:13)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor 15:58)
Resist him, steadfast in the faith. (1 Peter 5:9)
Next, we must remember that our words during an attack are vital.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. (Prov 18:21)
For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Mt 12:37)
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Mt 17:20)
Our words during battle are key. The Bible says we will have what we say—what are you saying during challenging days? Remember, in the book of Daniel, the angel said, “I have come for your words.” When we are in intercession or battle concerning a situation, angels and God harken to our words, and our words, if they are faith-filled and line up with God’s Word, will cause things to move in our favor.
1 Corinthians 10:10 warns us against murmuring and complaining. It says not to complain, as some of those in the Bible complained and were destroyed by the destroyer. Think about that. If we complain and murmur, we open the door for the destroyer to come in. Be very careful not to complain or become negative during challenging circumstances. Watch your words and ensure they always align with God’s Word.
Finally, just like those in the video mentioned above, worship, even in the midst of battle, will change everything. Worship is a powerful weapon that can turn everything in your favor.
Remember the story of Jehoshaphat? He was faced with a battle so strong that he didn’t know what to do. He cried out to God.
For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You. (2 Chron 20:12)
God’s answer was… “Don’t be afraid, the battle belongs to the Lord.”
God gave them a strategy to win the battle. He instructed them to place the praise and worshippers at the front during the battle, to go in singing praises to God. As they started worshiping and praising God, He Himself set an ambush against their enemy, ultimately leading to their defeat.
Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. (v.22)
The Bible says praise stops the enemy in his tracks – we see the proof of this truth in this story. When you choose to praise and worship God amid a battle, it is a sacrifice of praise and will stop the enemy. It will cause things to turn in your favor, just as it did for Jehoshaphat.
Today, if you find yourself in a battle you can’t win, begin to praise God, and all the forces of heaven will come to fight for you. They will come because of your immovable faith, your words, and your choice to worship God in the midst of the battle. God is faithful. He will not fail you. Stand firm and sing His praise.
