Recently, I have been thinking about God’s abiding presence. For God to have an abiding presence, the atmosphere must first be conducive to creating a resting place for God.
Psalm 132:13-14 says For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home: “This is My resting place forever and ever; here I will dwell, for I have desired this home.”
God is looking for a resting place, an abiding place…that place is in you or in your home; at least, it can be.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t stay in just anyone’s house for long. I can’t abide in a home where there is strife or division. I can’t remain in a place where anger or a spirit of control rules. Nor can I stay too long in a place where fear, anxiety, or depression is dominant. Why? It creates an atmosphere that I do not want to remain in. I long for peace. Therefore, I abide most often in a peaceful atmosphere. So, it is with God. God is looking for a resting place.
If we desire to be that place, we must create an atmosphere where He longs to be.
Creating that special place is not overly difficult, but it requires dedication, effort, and time. It’s a simple commitment to establish a set-apart place for God. It involves setting aside time for reflection, worship, seeking His face, and consciously creating an environment that fosters the very presence of Almighty God.
First, you must remove things that are not in accordance with God’s will. Get rid of anger, division, strife, control, and manipulation. Take a break from watching television. Put down your phone or tablet and focus on God. Don’t allow negative words or conversations in your home. Don’t allow anything in your home that would displease God. Maintain peace.
For the past twenty-five years, I have treasured having a sacred space set apart for God. However, I currently lack an extra room for this purpose. As a result, I strive to fill my entire house with His presence. Throughout my home, I pray, play worship music, declare His word daily, and cover everything with the blood of Jesus Christ.
If you do these things consistently, your home will become where God abides, not just where He visits. I also believe that if you continue cultivating His presence in your home, your home will become a portal into the spirit realm, just as many places of visitation have in times past. If you consistently give Him your home, time, and presence, He will visit you and make His abode with you.
Rooms or areas frequently used for prayer or worship can become filled with God’s palpable presence. Our office’s prayer room is such a place, possessing a distinct atmosphere, unlike any other space in the building. This unique atmosphere is purposefully cultivated, as the room is dedicated to serving as a place set apart for prayer, praise, and worship.
You can create the same thing in your home.
Did you realize that most revivals do not begin at church services? Most start in a small group of people praying and crying out to God, often in their homes. You can be one of those. You can cultivate a place where you are so divinely connected to God and the Holy Spirit that miracles begin to flow in your home. His peace will take over your home, and restoration will begin. It will become a place where people experience miracles, signs, and wonders.
Prayer and worship create an atmosphere where God is pleased to dwell. Faith makes a place where miracles can happen. Praise builds a place where the enemy must flee. If you continually have these things taking place in your home, it will contain the abiding presence of God—a place where He is pleased to dwell.
I hope that your home will be a place of peace. A place of praise and worship. A place where faith resides. A place where the manifest Spirit of God dwells. As He fills your home, you will find, within Him is, all you will ever need. My prayer today is…that your home will be blessed with the tangible presence of God from this day forth.
