I once heard someone say that insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Often we say we want things to change in our lives yet we continue to do the same things we have always done, over and over. Of course, we continue to get the same results.
The truth is if you want to see change, you are going to have to change some things. If you want a cleaner home, then you either have to clean it or hire someone to. If you want to lose weight then you are going to have to change the way you eat and begin to exercise. If you want more revelation from the word of God then you are going to have to get in the Bible and meditate on the word more. And if you want to see more power in your prayer life then you are going to have to change some things concerning your prayer life.
It has been many years ago, early one morning I was praying and the Lord spoke to my heart and said this; I am going to teach you to pray spirit led prayers. Frankly, at the time I had never heard such a thing, but it caught my attention.
I begin to study along those lines. I found that many times we pray off the top of our head or we pray what we think would be God’s will for a person or situation or we pray what we have always prayed. When what we should do is go to God and seek Him for the way to pray about every situation. Jesus said, “I only do what I see the Father do and I only say what I hear the Father say.”
Praying in this manner will take time and effort but you will begin to see a difference in the results of your prayers. When you pray in direct line with God’s will, your prayer life will produce much fruit, just like Jesus’ did. James 5:16 says the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. That is exactly what happens when you begin to consult God and His word concerning your prayers.
As I get up each morning, I generally pray before I do anything else. And while I think prayer is very important, I want to share with you something I did differently one morning that made a tremendous difference in my morning prayer.
On that particular morning I was unable to pray first, I don’t even recall why. So, while I was waiting for my prayer time to open up, I put on a preaching cd and listened to it while I waited. It was really good, so I put it on repeat and listened again. When my way opened up to pray that morning, my faith was increased dramatically. As I began to pray I noticed a few things.
First of all, my faith was so elevated that I believed for big things. Secondly, there was a different anointing on me when I prayed. You know what I mean, that yoke-destroying, burden-removing anointing was evident.
Last, I knew my prayers were spirit-led because the Holy Spirit would just drop someone or something in my heart to pray for. As I prayed for them, I knew in my heart it was done. I saw immediate results from many of those prayers that morning.
You see, the Bible says when we pray, if we believe, if we believe, we will have what we have asked. Often times we just pray the same prayers over and over and it becomes so redundant that we don’t even have to think about the words. These are vain repetitions. There is no power in that. We need our faith at a place that we believe we receive when we pray.
I want you to try something different in your prayer time this week. Before you pray listen to a preaching message or meditate on the word concerning your situation THEN pray. Build your faith first, then pray.
Have you ever been in an awesome service at a conference and the word of God was going forth in power. By the end of the service your faith was so big that when the time of prayer came, you prayed and received what you prayed for quickly? Of course, we all have. That is because the Word of God went forth. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Before you prayed, you had the faith to receive. Therefore, that is exactly what happened. It was according to your faith.
Jesus said it over and over, it is according to our faith that we receive. Make sure your faith is where it should be beforeyou pray. When your faith is where it should be before you pray, it is as the Amplified Bible says, the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working. That’s what we want to see each and every time we pray – tremendous power at work on our behalf.
In order to see tremendous power available you must first have an effective prayer life. That comes from building your faith. Today, before you pray, build your faith and watch your prayer life become full of tremendous power, dynamic in its working. Then you will see change take place.
