Today, I want to share a testimony from one of our readers in response to last weeks writing. I hope it encourages you – it certainly encouraged me.
Really enjoyed today’s message! Allow me to share one of my own experiences with God’s sovereignty and His all-powerful specific control of the elements:
In 1991, we had a farm located 10 Miles south of Decatur, Tx, and 20 miles North Of Cindy Jacob’s old stomping grounds, Weatherford, Texas. We were in a drought needing rain badly, it was summer, and both of my sons were at home from school for summer vacation. I went out on the porch to read the Bible and pray. The Holy Spirit led me to Proverbs 3.
I was reading the Jerusalem Bible, and when I got to verse 19, it read:
“By wisdom, Yahweh set the earth on its foundations. By discernment, He fixed the heavens firm. Through His knowledge, the depths were carved out,
And the clouds rain down the dew” – emphasis mine.
I felt an intense spiritual presence and covenantal promise from God that He was going to supply my need for rain.
It wasn’t an audible voice – more like a Vulcan mind-meld. Also, it was not an asynchronous or even bisynchronous transmission but an instantaneous, simultaneous mutual understanding. We had several rain barrels under the corners of the roof, and I put old ice coolers, 5-gallon buckets, and whatever would hold water under the drip lines of the roof whenever it rained.
It was the middle of the day without a cloud in the sky as I sat and watched a small cloud appear on the Western horizon (this was years before the Weather Channel and no rain had been predicted on TV) I walked back into the house and asked the boys to help me put out rain buckets. They acted like they thought I was kidding, but they humored me anyway. When we had the buckets in place, we sat on the porch to watch. More clouds gathered and formed into a front. A gentle breeze started up, increased into a light wind, and was bringing the rain directly toward us (we could even smell the freshness) – then it stopped.
Our farm was about 2 miles East of TX Farm to Market Rd 51, and we could see FM51 across the Salt Creek bottoms from the porch. The wind stopped right at FM51, turned 90 degrees toward the North, and started moving toward Decatur. The boys were very quiet by this time. I started worshiping and sang one of my favorite songs – “No other name but the name of Jesus.” As I sang, the wind stopped, turned 90 degrees back toward the East, and brought us the gentle rain we needed.
When the boys went back in the house, I sat on the porch, thanking the Lord for this blessing. The encounter continued with Him telling me that He would give me 1 year of rain for each day that I would fast and somehow asking me how many days I could do. Not a back and forth question and answer “let’s make a deal” but more of a master to bondservant mutual understanding. I replied, “3 days,” and He provided the 3 years of rain…

My friends, God is so very faithful. He wants this kind of relationship with you. One of continual conversation, trust, and reliance. I love this story.
