There is a scripture that has been on my mind all night long – and even into today, as I write this. It is found in the book of Isaiah.
Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. (Is 55:6)
I have been thinking about the past few weeks and what has transpired in my life.
A couple months ago, God reconnected me with two friends that I hadn’t seen in many years. It was as if no time had passed. We three have many things in common but one major thing. We love to seek the Lord. We long to be in His manifested presence.
The first few times we met, we prayed together. It was nice and we could sense the presence of God but nothing life-altering.
A few weeks ago, we added partaking communion to our gathering. Taking communion, the way the Lord led me to years ago, as if we were taking the time to sit down and have supper with our Lord.
We had a homemade loaf of bread, with several dips. We prayed and declared God’s word. We partook of the bread (the body of Christ) and the juice (the blood of Christ) for almost two hours. In the middle of our time of communion, the tangible presence of God filled the room. It was awesome.
It wasn’t a quick ten-minute communion, but a long-lasting intimate time with God.
This past weekend, we again gathered. We talked about things going on in our life and laughed and enjoyed each other’s company – then we decided to take communion again.
The moment we began communion. The moment we set our eyes on God, the manifest, tangible presence of God filled the room – almost like He had been waiting for us.
The next day we traveled to a nearby state together. We were simply having dinner at a restaurant when God once again showed up. Suddenly, His glorious presence overtook us and remained with us for hours. It was a deep tangible presence that I haven’t experienced to this degree in several years.
As I was thinking about all this today, this scripture came to mind.
Seek God while He may be found – call upon Him while He is near.
I know God is always with us. I realize He is always near; He never leaves us nor forsakes us. I get that. However, I also believe there are certain times, a kairos moment if you will, will God is near and urging us to seek Him diligently. Compelling us to draw near to Him as He draws near to us. I believe we are in one of those times right now.
By the way, a Kairos moment is defined as an opportune moment where the divine intersects with humans. It is a significant moment in time.
There have been many times in my life where it felt God was a million miles away – even though I knew He wasn’t far away. I knew He was with me. However, there are other times, like now, when He is so close I can almost feel His breath. We cannot take those times for granted.
Each time we gather in His name, His tangible presence comes quicker, stays longer and is stronger than the last time. Oh, how I love these times. It reminds me of a scripture from the Old Testament where God said, “I fed them with manna and caused them to hunger.” He is feeding us with His manifest presence and causing us to hunger for more.
I believe this writing will speak to someone – if that’s you and God is drawing you near, run, don’t walk into His presence. Set aside intimate time with Him. Seek His face. Draw near to Him while He is near. Everything we have need of is found one place – in His presence.
I believe God is calling you. Answer the call and draw near.
It was way too good not to share our experience! This taste and see devotional will no doubt stir hunger for His manifest presence in your readers!
Charlotte,
I totally agree – it was a divine time for certain.
