girl-with-her-hand-over-her-mouth-300x273Recently I have been listening to some teachings by a man named Robert Henderson. These teachings have made me take an inventory of my heart and my mouth.
I love when I hear teachings that brings forth change in me. Teachings that make me stop and choose my words wisely, that’s what happened to me today.

Allow me to explain. I was having a conversation with my daughter, one we have had many times. It was concerning my sister and how her business is doing and why it is not prospering. I said some things, she said some things and then God reminded me of some notes I had just read from Kelita about the teachings we have been listening to. Let me share a portion of her notes with you. These notes are referring to reasons a curse could be working in your life or someone else’s life.

4. Your own personal word that you speak over your life can be something that the enemy uses to build a case against you. Matthew 12:37, by your words you shall be justified (legal term, declared innocent) or by your words you shall be condemned. We must be careful of the words we are speaking. Ask the Lord to put a muzzle of our mouths so that we don’t speak negative things about ourselves. Things you say out of frustration, irritation, or being critical…

5. The words of people who have spiritual authority (not in your life, but have spiritual authority in the kingdom) ministry gifts, people who are prophets and apostles, pastors, positions in the spirit realm, and if they decide to speak against you, their words can be used to build cases against you in heaven. (the accuser says…the one you gave spiritual authority to __________ speaks evil about this person!)

6. Not only the words who have spiritual and positional authority but anyone who has authority over you in the Lord and in natural situations (Balaam and Balak), husband, wife, father, boss, pastor, worship leader, etc. (parents who speak negative over their kids is a real one!)

Oh, how it hurt my heart when God reminded me of this teaching and how it related to my conversation. Every word I had spoken about my sister was true however, I was not speaking blessings over her in any way, frankly I was speaking words of curses.

Proverbs 18:21 says; “death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

James 3:9-11 says; “With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be! Can both fresh water and bitter water flow from the same spring?”

Oh my goodness! I realized in the blink of an eye what we are doing when we are speaking what we see to be truth in the natural. This should not be.

Our tongue was created to bless, to empower, to uplift and create. What are we using it for today? And what are we inviting into our life and the life of others with our tongue? Are we inviting blessings or curses?

Jesus said in John 6:63; “It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh profits NOTHING. The words I speak they are spirit and they are life.”

It is my firm decision this day that from this day forward ALL my words will be spirit and life. I will empower with my words. I will encourage and I will speak ONLY what the word says regardless of what I see with my own eyes.

Today, check your heart and check your mouth…make sure blessings are coming out and not curses.
