A scripture came to mind as I hung up the phone. It is found in Psalm 37:4.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
The Amplified says it like this: Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.
God was giving me another one of my heart’s desires – I marvel at His faithfulness.
One of our precious readers had called to let me know that she had something to send me. She had read a motivation some time back where I shared a few things I love. Longaberger baskets, vintage pinecones, and antique quilts, among other things. I shared in the writing how I loved the quilts, although I had never owned one myself. She had one that she wanted to send me.
I was speechless and overwhelmed, not only by her generous and kind act, but also by the faithfulness of God in granting the desires of my heart. Mere days later, I was eagerly awaiting FedEx to bring my antique quilt. It is a beautiful quilt with many hours of love stitched into it. It is a treasure.
The goodness of God is truly astounding. He never ceases to amaze me. I have things in my home, like this beautiful quilt, that I love because of their beauty and the thoughtfulness of the person who gave them. But even more than that, they speak to me, to my heart. They speak of the faithfulness, goodness, and love of God to me. Every time I look at them, I see God’s goodness.
I have a Singer Featherweight that was given to me by a good friend who doesn’t even sew. I have received handmade items from partners that are indeed treasures. I have a few Longaberger baskets that I’ve been given, which I love and use daily. My house is being filled with things I love, by a Father who loves me and desires to fulfill the desires of my heart.
How about you? Are you expecting to see your desires fulfilled?
Do you have a heartfelt desire or a secret petition for something you long to have or see? Most of us do. God is faithful in granting our hearts’ desires. However, we must believe that He is. We must feed on His faithfulness and delight ourselves in Him.
Concerning the quilt, I have loved antique quilts since my aunt taught me quilting several years ago. I didn’t own one…yet…but I was constantly sowing quilts. I made quilts for people and gave them away. I purchased quilts for other people who liked them. I was sowing into my desire.
Beyond that, I try to delight myself in the Lord. I make time to spend with God, seeking His face and His presence.
Finally, I feed on His faithfulness daily. What does that mean? I remind myself of His faithfulness. I remember the times He has been faithful to me. I dwell on what He has done, not on what I feel He hasn’t yet done. I do that because I have known His faithfulness; therefore, even if I haven’t seen an answer to a prayer or desire yet, I know I will because His word will not return void. He’s not a man that He should lie. He will do all He says He will do, perhaps not when I want it, but if I hold my confidence steadfast to the end, He always comes through.
My friends, remember the God who grants the desires of your heart. Believe He will do it. Feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself in Him. Seek His face and His presence. Then, stand firm. He will do what He said He would do—every time.
