I’ve always loved the morning after a storm. One such morning, I woke up early after a powerful overnight storm caused a power outage. There was a lot of thunder, lightning, and strong winds. I wasn’t sure what I would wake up to. As I opened the curtains, I was greeted with a breathtaking sunrise and a bright blue sky filled with the sweet sound of birds singing.

It made me think about the storms we face in life and how we navigate through them. How do we react to storms, and what do we expect on the other side of them? Are we fully persuaded we will wake up one day to a bright and sunny day? Our expectations and our stand of faith very well may determine our outcome.

Many people lose faith in God and His Word during storms. I have watched this happen countless times to those around me. However, it isn’t always that way—some become even more resolute in their faith while walking through storms. It can go either way.

God has made us promises in His Word concerning these challenging times.

One of my favorite promises is in Deuteronomy 31:8: And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.

I can attest to this truth! No matter what we experience, if we continue to trust God, He will not leave our side. He will walk through it with us. Just as there was a fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, God walks with us in every challenging situation.

If we can’t take another step, He picks us up and carries us through. I love that about Him.

Which brings me to another beautiful promise. If God is with us, and He is, who and what can stand against us? (Rom 8:31)

There have been many times I have prayed and asked God to deliver me from certain situations, but most of the time, He did not. More often than not, He walked me through it. Was this my preferred route? Absolutely not. But I have learned that I gained fruit and stability during those times that I couldn’t have gotten any other way.

It all comes down to trust.

Do you trust God in the storm? When you are sitting in the dark, with nothing but the sound of fierce winds and chaos, and everything seems to be crashing around you, do you still trust Him?

I am not saying it is easy, but it is possible with Him on your side. Trusting Him in the storm is the key.

If you trust Him in the storm, it will be just like it was for me this morning.

You will awake one day to a bright, sunny sky. The beauty of a new sunrise.

The singing of birds.

I could testify of His faithfulness in storms for hours. He has walked me through things I didn’t think I could survive. And most of the time, I walked alone, just Him and me. I did survive. Not only did I survive, but I learned to lean on Him and thrive during those seasons. Oh my! He is so very faithful.

He is pure love manifested.

My friend, I don’t know what type of storm you are in today, but I do know this. You can trust Him in the storm. It may rage around you, shouting at you.

Don’t listen. Keep your eyes on God; He will keep you in peace. Keep your ears tuned in to His voice. He will speak to you. Keep your heart set on Him – He will never leave or forsake you – and He will bring you out into an abundant place. You have His Word on it. You will see the dawning of a new day…for it always comes – after the storm.
