While perusing through the latest news articles, a single thought ran through my mind. The whole earth is groaning and shaking. Earthquakes in Taiwan and New York, damaging storms and tornados across several states and unprecedented high winds in cities all around me, shows me something is happening that is quite unusual. At least these are things I have not seen in my lifetime.
The following day I found myself at a horseshow, in a large barn with hundreds of horses. All the horses and even the dogs present were acting odd. Neighing or barking and kicking constantly. They all seemed to be on edge, acting disturbed, which again, wasn’t normal. I said to one of the coaches, “What is going on with the horses today?” She turned to me and said, “I really think something is off in the atmosphere, each one of them is acting erratically.”
It certainly did seem as if something was off. With all these thoughts running through my mind this past weekend, I remembered a scripture verse I had once read. One that should give us great comfort in the current climate of our nation.
When the earth and everyone living upon it spin into chaos, I am the One who stabilizes and supports it (Ps 75:3, VOICE.)
Digging a little deeper, I found a couple more translations:
When the earth totters, and all the inhabitants of it, it is I Who will poise and keep steady its pillars. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! (AMPC)
When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm (NLT.)
Walking through the past few years, we have all become acutely aware of what chaos feels like. Chaos is defined as complete disorder and total confusion. It is a time where it feels as if everything is out of our control. Looking around today, I can certainly relate to that feeling. It is a very vulnerable place, indeed.
We are a people who once felt we had control over much that happened in our lives. Such as medical decisions, what is being taught to our children, when and where we can go…many things that were once our choice alone seem to have changed. It feels just like this scripture. The whole earth and every person on it seem to be shaking and quaking in turmoil. The good news is when everything spins into chaos, God is the One who will stabilize and support it.
I love the translation that says God will poise and keep steady.
Poise means to balance. Balance means to hold supported or suspended, immovable, in a steady position. God will bring balance while He holds and supports our world and the people in it. Our great God will keep us steady.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Oh, my goodness, I don’t know about you, but this scripture is very encouraging to me. When everything around us seems to be shaking out of control, our God promises to not only hold us steady but also hold the world we are living in steady and immovable. How does He do that?
We find the answer to that in Hebrews 1:3.
He, Jesus, is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine, and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power (AMP.)
If our surroundings seem shaky and unstable, perhaps even chaotic, whether in our personal family or in our nation, God already has a plan set in place before the foundations of the world. He will uphold, maintain, guide, and propel the universe and our personal world by His mighty WORD of power. The power is in the Word of God. His Word, spoken out of our mouth, will bring stability in shaky times. For this reason alone, we cannot stop praying and interceding. We must continue to declare God’s unfailing Word out of our mouth, concerning our family, our city, our states and our nation.
If we want change in our life, we must saturate ourselves with the Word of God on a consistent basis. It cannot be something we do only in crisis. No! We should be so full of the Word of God that nothing, but the Word comes out of our mouth. We need to take time each day to read and listen to the Word of God. There alone, we will find the life of God.
If we only dig into the Word of God when we need a miracle, we may find ourselves in need of supernatural intervention quite often. This is not Gods best for us. On the other hand, if we live in the Word of God daily, instead of constantly needing miracles, we can walk in the blessing of God.
Mental health issues are on the rise. Anxiety and stress are at an all-time high. Many are feeling the chaos. Thousands are experiencing things around them shaking out of control. Yes, it is obvious, things are being shaken. However, God has already declared His plan for the shaking. He will stabilize us and keep us steady, if we only keep our eyes and our thoughts on Him. He promises to keep His people in perfect peace…as long as our mind stayed upon Him. We cannot do that by engrossing ourselves in the daily news or social media. No, that won’t work. We must stay in His presence and in His Word. As we do, we will sense the assurance of a God that holds us steady in life.
My friend if you are feeling a little shaking, a bit of chaos, fear not! God is the stabilizer in your life. He will poise Himself to uphold you with His mighty right hand and with His Word. Trust Him. Declare His promises and stand firm on them. The chaos will calm, and divine peace will rest upon you. It’s His promise.
