In Genesis 1, we read; So, God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
Later in Genesis 2, we see where God created a helper for Adam. They were both living in the Garden of Eden, blessed and walking in the fulness of God.
We all know the rest of the story. In Genesis 3 we see where the serpent came to Eve and she ate of the forbidden tree. As did Adam.
Moments before this act of disobedience, Adam and Eve were under the rulership of God. They had one rule to follow. When they broke that rule, they came under the rulership of Satan.
Many things happened in that moment. But there is only one thing I want to talk about today.
I want to talk about how Adam transitioned from seeing himself through God’s eyes to seeing himself through the enemy’s eyes.
In Genesis 2, the word of God says; And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
A short time later, after eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they saw themselves differently.
We read in Genesis 3; And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So, he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
One moment they were naked and not ashamed. The next moment they were afraid and ashamed, hiding from God.
This insightful scripture causes me to think…whose eyes do we see ourselves through? God’s or Satan’s?
When we became born again, we were redeemed through the blood of Jesus. We are no longer under the rulership of Satan. We have been bought back – returned to the original plan of God. The plan of blessing and not curse.
Before the fall, Adam had dominion. He did not run from God. He walked with Him in the cool of the day. He ruled over everything God had given him. He walked WITH GOD.
After the fall, he labored and toiled. After the fall, he hid from God. After the fall, he felt shame. He experienced fear for the first time. None of this was God’s plan for him. And it is not God’s plan for you.
Today, I want you to stop and think about this portion of scripture in a new light. Ask yourself this question, do I see myself through God’s eyes? Do I see myself as one who has dominion? Do I see myself as one who walks with God? Do I see myself as blessed? Am I confident in God’s love for me?
Or do you see yourself through the eyes of the enemy? Are you afraid to approach God? Do you hide from Him when you should be running to Him? Do you feel safe in God or afraid?
Whose eyes do you see yourself through. It’s for certain you are seeing yourself through someone’s eyes, make sure it’s God view you are seeing.
It is not God’s plan for you to be ashamed or fearful. It is His plan for you to walk in the goodness and blessing of God. To have full assurance in Him and His word. That is what He wants you to see for yourself. See yourself through His eyes, through His word and walk with Him.
