I woke up on Saturday morning with a thankful heart.
Don’t get me wrong, I am always thankful for many things – I choose to be thankful – even when it is difficult. I believe most, if not all things in life, are a choice.
God says, “this day choose life or death,” and I believe that is exactly what we do each day…choose.
All that being said, Saturday was different. Not only was my heart thankful but it was also filled with remembrance of His mighty acts.
Many of us know God through the mighty acts we have read about in the Bible. God even commands us to remember those mighty acts in Deuteronomy 8. He also warns us of the consequences of forgetting His mighty acts.
We also see in the Bible that Israel often worshipped God by recalling His mighty acts. We see this in Nehemiah 9, Daniel 9 and even in the Psalms. Remembering God mighty acts and praising Him for them are indeed, a form of worship.
1 Chronicles 16:12 says; Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done.
Psalm 66:1-3 says; Shout joyfully to God, all the earth! Sing about the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Say to God, “How awe-inspiring are Your works!”
Without a doubt, it is pleasing to God when we remember and celebrate His mighty works.
However, the mighty acts of God we read about in the Bible are not the mighty acts I am talking about today. I am talking about the mighty acts He has done in our lives. The personal things He has done for us. The times He has come through for us when it looked like there was no way out – those are the mighty acts I am talking about.
As I started my day, these mighty acts in my life ran through my mind.
The times He has brought healing to my body. The day I prayed for my daughter, as a little girl, who had a gap in her teeth and I didn’t have dental insurance at the time. I prayed and within days, God closed that gap and gave her a beautiful smile.
I thought of the time He healed my leg from a brown recluse spider bite that was life threatening. And the time I prayed for a man who was paralyzed. I prayed for him several days in a row. We were both shocked the last day I prayed for him and his legs moved. God healed and restored him.
I thought of the people in my family who had become saved in the past year. To God be all the glory!
Over and over the mighty acts of God in my life, came to mind. I couldn’t help but give thanks for all the wonderful things He has done in my life and in the lives of those around me.
When we remember the things God has done for us, it is a form of worship. It is an expression of praise.
Psalm 100:4-5 says; Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and bless His name. For the LORD is good, and His loving devotion endures forever; His faithfulness continues to all generations.
He is good. So, so good. And as we give thanks for His goodness, we enter into an anointed place in Him. A really good place.
It was a wonderful way to begin my day, to begin my weekend.
Today, I want to encourage you to remember God’s mighty acts…and not just the ones in the Bible, but the ones He has done in your personal life. Remember and give thanks! It is a form of worship. It is an expression of praise. And it is a wonderful way to begin your day.
