Remember the Raven

Every now and then, God will remind me of something that happened a few years ago. During those times of reminding, He is often instructing me to be a raven for someone else. This conversation was based on the story of God feeding Elijah with a raven when there was famine in the land.

This story lets us know that God will take care of His people – no matter what. That is the truth. However, sometimes He will cause us to be the raven that feeds others.

One day I received a text from a close friend. As I read her text, the Lord spoke four words to me that I have never forgotten.

He said, “You were her raven.”

Suddenly, I was taken back to an article I had just read on Elijah List about supernatural provision.

But let me go back a moment and explain. The text I had received from my friend said, “thank you for bringing me a biscuit today, I did not get to eat until 7pm tonight, I would have been starving if it wasn’t for that biscuit.”

You see, I had to go and grab something from this friend one day. As I drove by Hardees, I felt impressed to text her and ask if she wanted anything to eat. She did. I stopped and got her a steak biscuit and took it to her. I didn’t think anything else of it, until I received her text later that night. It was then that the Lord said, “You were her raven.”

I Kings 17:4 says, And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

In the article I read it said ravens represented supernatural provision.

As I thought about what the Lord had said to me, I thought about the different times I have been led to be the raven that brought provision to someone. That day it was food. However, there have been times that God has had me meet a need, one I wasn’t aware of, financially. That too was supernatural provision.

Supernatural provision doesn’t have to come in a vision or from an angel. Some days it is something as simple as taking food to someone. It is still supernatural because you have no way of knowing the need. You are simply obeying the spirit of God.

Recently, a friend asked me to pray about a financial situation. As I prayed God told me to send her the money and meet the need. I did, she was blessed, and I was blessed. I was the raven that day.

Yet, there have been times that I have had a need and God sent someone to supernaturally meet that need, without them knowing about it. I don’t mean He brought money out of the mouth of a fish, but He did speak to their spirit. They listened and obeyed and met the need. That too, is supernatural provision.

I am saying all this to say, some days we are the raven. Some days He sends the raven to feed us.

Some days God will meet your need by someone else, without you ever mentioning it to them. Some days God will give you a need to meet that you have no idea even exists. The important thing is to be open and alert to the voice of the Lord. That way you will know when He wants to use you as the raven to meet the need, whether it is food or some other type of provision.

I went through a season many years ago, it was a hard, hard season. At that time, I did not have money to even buy groceries. I would eat buttered egg noodles for weeks at a time. When I felt I couldn’t take it another day, God always had this one person call me and they would say, “I am alone tonight and I don’t want to eat alone, do you want to come eat with me tonight?” That was my raven, and I knew it. However, they didn’t know what was going on with me, and I never said a word to them. Years later I was giving a testimony about that season in my life, this person happened to be in the audience, and she was astounded. She had no idea. She had been my raven.

Today, ask God if He needs you to be the raven for someone. Ask Him if there is a need you can meet or a seed you can sow. I can tell you from experience, God works supernaturally in the most natural ways. I saw it that day with a simple unction to take a friend breakfast.

God said, I was her raven. I was so blessed to hear those words; it truly is more blessed to give than to receive. Who can you be a raven for this day? Ask God and let Him lead you. They and you, will be blessed beyond words.
