I once saw words in an advertisement that caught my attention. The bold, lettered words said, Plan Your Day…Grow Your Life.

Proverbs 16:3 in the Amplified Bible says, Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], and your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].

We can’t be successful without first having plans.

Unfortunately, most of our planned days look something like this…

Jump out of bed, get the kids ready for school, go to work, take a quick lunch break, pick the kids up at school, go home and prepare dinner, head to soccer practice, get everyone ready for bed, fall into bed for the night…and then wake up and do it all again the next day.

I know that doesn’t apply to everyone, but I hope you get what I am saying.

Our days are packed full of things that must be done.

If you take a moment to review your priorities, you will usually find that those priorities are succeeding. It’s the things not planned for that often fail. The things we don’t make time for will frequently fall by the wayside.

In Psalm 90, Moses wrote a very famous verse, Teach us to number our days O Lord that we may have a heart of wisdom.

While this means we should realize the limited number of days we have on this earth, it also means much more. The word, number, here is a translation of the Hebrew word manah which also means to appoint and ordain.

Appoint the days. We don’t just sit passively waiting to see what happens; we prepare our days ahead. Make a plan, so to speak. It’s what we do for everything else in life. We plan doctor appointments, business meetings, and schedules to keep; all these things are and must be planned.

If the things we plan in our natural, day-to-day lives are essential, isn’t our spiritual life even more important? Why do we not plan our spiritual lives? If we want to walk in God’s blessings and provisions, shouldn’t we also prepare for that? If we wish for our spiritual life to grow, shouldn’t we plan for it to grow? Shouldn’t we prioritize those things?

I think that is what God is talking about when He says in Habakkuk 2:2, “Write the vision and make it plain.”

He was and is saying, “Make a clear plan and then walk it out.”

I love what Proverbs 16:3 says in the Passion Translation: Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed.

This, my friends, is a plan of ultimate success.

Put your trust in God. Make a plan. Then, every plan will succeed. It sounds like a good plan to me.

Today, as you plan for the week, prioritize time with God. You may have to get up early, skip lunch, or stay up late, but whatever it takes will be worth it.

Do you want to enhance your spiritual life? If so, create a plan to structure your day and nurture your spiritual growth.
