“Why are we making another deposit today? We just made one yesterday,” Breanne asked. It was a valid question, as we typically only make deposits a few times weekly. “I don’t know,” I replied. “I just feel that we should make a deposit today with what came in.”
As I turned and walked out of her office, a sense of anticipation filled the air. With each step across the threshold, a feeling of expectancy washed over me. Suddenly, I felt a gentle nudge in my spirit and heard the voice of the Lord speaking to me, “Remember the widow woman with the jar of oil?” It was as if the scene from the Bible came alive in my mind, and I knew exactly what the Lord was revealing to me at that moment.
A confident woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. (2 Kings 4:1-6)
God reminded me that the widow’s oil continued to flow as long as she kept pouring it into containers. The moment she stopped filling the jars, the oil stopped flowing. This story serves as a powerful reminder for me about the importance of persistence and continuous effort in achieving my goals.
I am standing in faith, declaring the Word of God, and believing God for a certain amount to come into the ministry this month. He instructed me to continue to make deposits every day possible. For me, it is the same as the widow pouring oil into a jar. I am pouring finances into the ministry, and if I keep pouring, it will keep flowing.
It is the law of sowing and reaping. If we continue to sow, we will continue to reap. If we keep pouring the Word of God into our hearts and minds each day, we will continue to reap the benefits of the Word of God. When we stop pouring, the provision ceases, just as it did with the widow.
For me, God is saying, “Keep pouring,” even when it is inconvenient or not how you have done it in the past. Regardless of what amount comes in, just keep pouring. Of course, as I keep pouring into our account, we continue to sow and give our tithes and offerings into other areas, and God keeps blessing us. It’s His way.
I love it when God shows me something like this—it lets me know I am going in the right direction, even if I didn’t understand why initially.
This is the exact principle I have watched work time and again to become debt-free, not only for me but for others around me.
Many people wait until they have the full amount to pay on a bill; however, if you start putting money toward it when you have it, God will add His super to your natural, and it will be paid off before you know it. It doesn’t matter if only an extra dollar comes into your hands; take that money and put it toward that bill. Every week, every day, or every month. If you choose to do this, you will see this principal work for you. As I said, I have personally seen it work over and over again.
This principle works in many different areas of our life – what we pour into will continue to pour out upon us. When we pour into our prayer life – answered prayers will flow forth. When we pour into our financial life, finances will flow forth.
I don’t know who this message is meant for, but I believe it is intended for someone. Just as the prophet asked the widow, “What is in your house or in your hand?” Are you in need of a breakthrough in a particular area of your life? Is there something that you feel called to pour your resources into, whether the resources are money, time, or prayer? It could be a family member, a friend, paying off debts, or perhaps like me, believing for a specific amount and needing to invest in it. Whatever it may be, don’t stop pouring. Keep the momentum going and don’t let the provision stop by halting your efforts.
The story of the widow woman ended with enough provision to last her and her family as long as she needed. That’s how God works. If God is telling you to pour into something – obey Him. He is faithful to His Word and He will cause His promises to come to pass in your life. Trust Him. He won’t fail you.
