Every day of our life we are investing in something. We invest in our jobs or businesses. We invest in our financial stability. We invest in our family and loved ones – but do we take the time to invest in ourselves?
This thought came to mind this morning as I was preparing to take time to make some confessions.
I dug out some confessions on strength, some on health, some on finances and some on peace and began to speak the Word of God over myself. As I did the Lord spoke gently to me and said, “You are investing in yourself.” Wow, what a powerful statement, I hadn’t thought about that. Nor had I thought about the seasons I didn’t invest in myself as much as I should have.
It caused me to stop and wonder how often we invest in ourselves. Most of us have a prayer list that we pray over weekly. These lists usually include our children, grandchildren, family, and loved ones. Perhaps they cover our business, ministry, job, or finances. They may even include friends and the needs of our church. Most of us stop at that.
Not too long ago I was praying about several different things and when I said, “amen” the Lord said, “Now, pray over yourself.” I realized in that moment I don’t often pray over myself. I pray over everything else, family, loved ones, ministry partners, friends and so much more, but I generally stop there. Therefore, I am not daily investing in myself.
To invest is defined as; expend money with the expectation of achieving a profit or material result by putting it into financial plans, shares, or property, or by using it to develop a commercial venture.
If we were to apply that to a person, or to ourselves we would say; investing in me is to put something in me, the WORD of God, with the expectation of achieving a profit and developing increase.
That’s what happens when we take the time to invest in ourselves. When we set aside time to spend in God’s Word or pray His Word over OUR LIFE – we are investing in ourselves.
If we never invest time in ourselves, we will never see profit or increase in our life. I am not talking about an increase of money. I am talking about an increase of joy, peace, and the blessings of God in our life. We must put something in to get something out. It is ONLY when we sow that we reap.
How often do you invest in yourself?
When you are praying over your children or grandchildren, do you first pray over yourself? When you are confessing the Word of God over your business or ministry, do you first confess the Word of God over yourself? Are you investing in yourself as you pray?
In our world today there are so many needs, so many things that desperately need prayer, however, we must, we simply must, invest in ourselves to remain strong in a world of chaos.
Today, I want to encourage you to begin to invest in yourself. Pray daily over yourself. Confess God’s Word over yourself. Put His Word in your heart and mind on a weekly basis. Pour into yourself until you see the fruit, the mighty harvest of your investment. You will be so glad you did!
