In the New Testament, Jesus speaks about mountains, revealing both their literal and symbolic significance for believers. Mountains in Scripture are not just physical features of the landscape; they also serve as metaphors for the obstacles and challenges we encounter in life.

Each person’s “mountain” may look different—what you face might not be the same as what I face—but the symbolism remains powerful and relevant across situations.

In our daily lives, mountains can represent a range of difficulties. For some, a mountain might be sickness or disease, while for others it could be broken relationships, financial hardship, loss, or grief. Essentially, a mountain can stand for any significant challenge that feels immovable or overwhelming.

The Bible offers insight into overcoming these metaphorical mountains. I want to share two of those ways found in Scripture with you today. Ways those mountains can be removed from our lives – once and for all.

One is found in the book of Psalms, which provides insight for dissolving the mountains in our lives.

The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. (Ps 97:5)

The image of melting wax reminds me of how obstacles or mountains can dissolve in the presence of the Lord, just as a candle disappears as it burns. When we spend time with God, He causes our mountains to melt away like wax.

When we face a mountain in our life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or powerless. Yet, the scriptures remind us that we are not alone in facing these challenges. God’s presence is not only comforting but transformative, working in ways we may not immediately see. The process of overcoming may take time and patience, but as we keep our focus on Him, as we spend quality time in His presence, ministering to Him alone, He will cause our mountains to melt away like wax on a candle.

Another example of the movement of mountains in our life is referenced in Matthew 17.

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. (Matt 17:20)

According to this scripture, Jesus emphasizes the importance of directly speaking to challenges— referred to as “mountains”—in order to overcome them. I recently heard a powerful statement that aligns with this truth. “Faith moves the mouth before it moves the mountain,” This statement has remained with me all week – if we are not speaking to our mountain – they are not moving.

Seeing our mountain move is not achieved by discussing or worrying about it, but by consciously and confidently speaking to it in accordance with the word of God. If we truly believe and then speak our faith, transformation will follow. The mountain will move. Furthermore, Jesus affirms that “nothing will be impossible” for those who practice this approach.

Regardless of the specific challenges faced, the directive remains consistent: first believe and then speak directly to the mountain. To the obstacle. To whatever is standing in your way of walking in all Jesus died to give you.

In order to see your mountain move – you must allow your faith to arise and speak. The mountain won’t move until the mouth does. I encourage you today, to begin to release your faith by speaking to your mountain. Remember, nothing is impossible for God, and nothing is impossible to those who believe and speak!  It’s time my friend, it’s time for every mountain to move!
