Recently, I have been teaching a series at a local church on the subject of worship. The first night I taught, God brought a couple people who I hadn’t seen in many years to the meeting. I was surprised and very happy to see them. Since there was more than one person, and neither from the same city, I began to question God about why they had come to hear me teach from such a distance. He spoke one simple statement to me. “I am gathering my eagles” He said.
That next day I began to study eagles hoping to discover a depth of what God was saying to me. Today, I want to share some of the characteristics I found while studying about eagles. I used a familiar scripture in my studies.
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Is 40:31)
To wait means to look for, hope for, linger for, tarry, and expect.
The first thing I found is how eagles battle. They do not fight snakes or other enemies on the ground. They know the snake is comfortable on the ground and has some advantages in their comfort zone. The eagles take the snake to higher heights. The eagle takes the snake to such a height where they have no stamina and no resistance. The snake can’t fight back in the sky; there they are useless and vulnerable. Therefore the battle is easily won.
I once read a story about a pilot. He was flying his course one day when he kept hearing an odd noise. Upon investigation, he discovered there was a rat in the cockpit. The rat was chewing on the wires. The pilot panicked and said, “If he chews through the wires, we will lose power and crash.” That was his first thought. But then he remembered something. Instead of panicking, he took the plane higher and higher. To an altitude where the rat could not live. The rat died and the pilot got back on course. Problem solved.
In our life, we too fight enemies and rats. We must become like the eagle and like this pilot in the story I shared. We must take our fight to a higher level. Into the throne room of God. Where the battle has already been won, 2000 years ago at the cross.
Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (1 Cor 10:1-5)
Let’s look at verses 3 and 4 in the Amplified Bible.
For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.
Our weapons are not human weapons; they are spiritual weapons. Therefore, we must take our battles into the realm of the spirit. How do we do that? By spending time with God. By declaring His Word over our situation. And by fasting and praying. When we do these things, according to the Word of God, our weapons become MIGHTY and will overthrow the enemy.
My friends don’t fight the enemy on his turf, remember, we are not of this world. Instead take him to the higher place, where we as born-again believers dwell. In the secret place of the Most High God. Take him to an atmosphere where he has no stamina, no resistance and no power to win. Take him to a place where, in Christ, he is already defeated. Thank you, Jesus, for complete victory!!!
