I heard a story a couple weeks ago from a friend that reminded me of the importance of having a cheerleader in our life. And the importance of being the cheerleader in someone’s life.
I have thought about our conversation several times.
It is vital to have a person in your corner in life. One who has your back. One who can encourage you and lift you up when it is needed, and we all need it at one time or another.
Eccl. 4:9-12 says, Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
There have been times in my life when I needed someone to pick me up, spiritually and emotionally. I thank God for the cheerleaders in my life during those times. I thank God for those who reminded me what the Word of God said when I couldn’t find my way out of the darkness.
1 Thess. 5:11 says, Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
Hebrews 10:23-25 says, Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. and let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
Words are powerful things; they can lift us up or tear us down. Words can send us down a road we don’t want to go, or they can get us back on the right path. Therefore, we must be careful at all times to use our words wisely.
Acts 15:32 says, Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.
It has been my life’s work to encourage others with the Word of God. Frankly, it should be an important part of each of our lives, to encourage others with God’s Word.
Almost daily I come across someone who needs encouragement. The Word of God is FILLED with encouragement, as we share it with others we do as the Bible says and lift them up. We become their cheerleader.
A cheerleader is defined as someone who encourages others. Can you be a cheerleader in someone’s life today?
Determine in your heart that if you come across someone who is anxious or concerned, encourage them with the Word of God.
Just this week a friend of mine texted me that her mom was in hospice, and it was just a matter of time. She texted, “I am looking for comfort scriptures.” I quickly responded, “I will do that for you, I will have them to you in a few minutes.”
There was so little I could do for her, but this I could do. I could send her scriptures on comfort to help her, to encourage her, to lift her up just a little bit.
Sometimes we feel we can’t do enough and it causes us to feel helpless, but we can ALWAYS encourage with the Word of God.
Proverbs 12:25 says, Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up. (NLT)
When we become an encourager, we will find that when the day comes, that we need encouragement, God will make sure a cheerleader comes across our path, just as it says in Proverbs 11:25.
Proverbs 11:25 says, The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.
We water others with the Word of God. Today, spread cheer! Spread joy! Spread encouragement! Water others with the Word of God….and God will make sure you are watered, just as His Word says; we reap where we have sown.
