In the world we are living in today, the ability to dream big seems to be crushed on every side. War, terrorism, and fear seem to be the focus of news and social media right now. For this reason alone, I stay away from it. No, I don’t have my head in the sand. I am fully aware of what is going on in the world – but I realize how vital it is at times like this to keep my eyes on God and His Word. To remember His promises and His faithfulness. To remind myself that He has a good plan for His people and a future filled with hope and big dreams.
Recently, my granddaughter, Brailee has reignited a desire in me to dream big and work at causing those dreams to come to pass.
If you have been a reader of this ministry for some time, you probably remember my little granddaughter LOVES horses. She has ever since she was two years old. We all thought it was a phase and it would pass but it only grows stronger each year. Her bedroom is filled with Schleich and Breyer horses and always has been. Boots are her go-to footwear. Her favorite place to be is in the field, riding bareback or working with her horse. The smile on that girl’s face when she is on that horse is priceless.
Her desire is to grow up and rescue horses. She simply can’t stand to see a horse mistreated. In partnering with this dream, she wants to be a veterinarian. This is what she talks about all the time.
Brailee has been in horse shows for several years. Although she does it because she loves it, she is good at it and has many ribbons to prove it. A couple weeks ago, she received a call to join an equestrian group that not only enters shows BUT each time they do they get points and those points go toward the chance at a scholarship to become a veterinarian. Brailee is beginning to see her dream as a real possibility.
She can talk about nothing else. While this is a great opportunity, it is not cheap. Her mom and I have been busy trying to think of fundraisers she can do. Knowing God will provide, we press on. Knowing as we sow into her big dreams – God will see our seed and place His hand on our big dreams. I am excited for her and for our ability to see the passion of a big dream once again.
Just yesterday, I was driving her home, and she was sharing with me how she would one day rescue horses from auctions. As a veterinarian she would be able to treat any injuries they have and retrain them. Then she would find them a new home, a good home. Her passion is contagious. It caused me to begin to remember big dreams I have had for many years. Dreams that had to be put on the back shelf for one reason or another.
It reminded me of a scripture found in Matthew 18:3.
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whenever I have thought of this verse, I always think of trusting or loving like a child. Which is true. But what about dreaming like a child?
If you could hear Brailee, you would see her dream is so real to her and she is willing to work at being a part of helping it come to pass. How about you? Do you have dreams that you are passionate about? Maybe a new business. Maybe to find a godly man or woman to walk with you. Perhaps you want to write a book. Whatever your dream is, are you still passionate about it? Are you feeding it? Are you seeking God about how to bring it to pass?
As I said, in the current atmosphere, dreaming big seems impossible but all things are possible with God. We simply cannot quit dreaming God sized dreams. I am so very thankful Brailee has reminded me of this truth at this dark time. I wanted to remind you of the same thing. What is your dream?
Today I want to encourage you to pursue that dream. Dream big! No dream is too big for God. Therefore, no dream is too big for you. Dream like a child. Remember how it felt to feel like nothing was out of reach. That is Gods plan for you – a tremendous hope and a wonderful GOD-sized future. Never forget that. In the meantime, join me in praying for Brailee. That all her dreams come true. That she reaches every goal and sees the plan of God fulfilled in her life. And, that she never, ever stops dreaming big.
